Emboldened by the positive reaction to this first ‘neoclassical’ composition,‘A Grimm Fantasy For Orchestra’, Paul combined his macabre fascination with Victorian gothic novels and his passion for ballet to compose and record ‘Nosferatu – The Curious Case of Jonathan Harker’, a dark and dramatic psychological dance drama.

As the subtitle suggests, ‘Nosferatu’ the ballet is centred not on the count but on his alleged victim, Jonathan Harker, whose fevered imagination recasts the aged aristocrat as a vampire. The events recounted in Bram Stoker’s gothic novel are now a macabre fantasy experienced in Harker’s mind which makes Roland’s ballet fundamentally different from the rival ‘Dracula’ ballets which are straight adaptations of Stoker’s novel.

‘Nosferatu – The Curious Case of Jonathan Harker’ also features an entirely original script and narration between scenes.

Success for the world premiere of Paul Roland's ballet 'Nosferatu'...a complete 'sold out' event for Novecento's 'New Music' festival.
Choreographer Paola Pedrazzini conquered the stage with the dancers Leo Moreno and Francesco Beltrani, arousing the enthusiasm of a very diverse audience (spectators from all over Italy, a couple arrived for the occasion from Zurich) The music of Roland mesmerizes, tickling vampire-like the most intimate strings of the soul and he knows how to ennoble the crucial passages of a classic romantic tragedy.
