Dark And Brilliant Beauty! 5 star review on Amazon by Grey Malkin
Another classic Paul Roland album, 'Sarabande', gets the deluxe reissue treatment with a wealth of additional material...Roland is undoubtedly a psych pop genius and his quirks and charm are ably represented here on tracks such as the full on psych rock of 'The King Will Come' or the sinister, gothic flourishes of 'Morgan La Fay'...Roland is a master of the uncanny tale and his elaborate and detailed song embellishments bring the unsettling and twisted stories in his lyrics to life; 'Waltzing The Square Ring Again' is an organ extravaganza whilst 'Beyond The Realm Of Sleep' features some of the most emotive and bloodcurdling guitar you will ever hear. Take a walk on the dark side, you need this album.'

Highly Recommended! 5 star review on Amazon posted by 'George'
A host of musical delights from the maestro Paul Roland. As I understand from the inlay notes this is an updated version of the LP 'Sarabande'. It includes unreleased material and [also] songs that have been retouched.I am unfamiliar with the original albums, but these new ones sound brilliant.
This is my third Paul Roland CD purchase and I am delighted to have been introduced to such an amazing singer/songwriter.
Psych/rock/folk/baroque styles cascade through these tunes with hints of gothic/poetic storytelling. All wrapped in Paul's gift of innovative musical ideas. These LP's prove that I have struck gold in finding such an outstanding artist.'

About this revamped re-issue: ‘The tampering on 'Sarabande' was even more drastic…and yet some tracks undoubtedly benefitted from this rejigging: A Thousand and One Nights, blessed with the addition of double vocal track, stands out as one of the record’s best songs.
The four replacements are also noteworthy: Allah’s Curse flirts again with Oriental atmospheres, with a staccato rhythm led by Roland’s unmistakable acoustic strumming; The Late Mr. Evesham is an evocative little number which pays homage to H.G. Wells’ The Story of the Late Mr. Elvesham; Anne Bonny is an enjoyable sea shanty about a pirate woman who passes herself off as a man which climaxes in one of Roland’s funniest last verses since the days of 'Happy Families': ‘Feared was she by one and all / She’d swear and spit and drink and brawl / But as pirates never change their clothes / Her secret’s safe so no one knows!’ The biggest surprise comes from the hypnotic Journey to the Centre of the Mind, an old demo of the 'Sarabande' era which Paul had put aside, not convinced by it: eventually he exhumed the track and put on the rerelease just as it was, with no retouching whatsoever. Despite the bare-bones soundscape, the song ventures in risky territories with admirable bravado, amid elementary yet intriguing keyboard passages and arcane instrumental touches. In a way, it links to one of the artist’s passions, progressive rock, which will find its way into his records in the new millennium.’
