about

An Essential Album
One of the psych master's best releases (the competition is fierce as any of Paul's albums are more than worth the admission fee), Masque is a beautiful and timeless piece of pyschedelic symphonia. From the perfect Alice In Wonderland pop of 'Candy Says' to the folk tinged violin lament 'The Ratcatcher's Daughter', from the eastern psych pomp splendour of 'Pharaoh' to the rock stylings of 'Dr Syn Is Riding Again'; Roland doesn't put a foot wrong. It's a lush and orchestrated album, full of hidden corners and priceless ornate treasures. This album should be spoken of in the same breath as Syd Barrett's solo albums, Robyn Hitchcock's work and the oeuvre of Kate Bush. The man is an English legend. Put on the masque and enter the carnival....[Review by Grey Malkin on Amazon UK]
